Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Receives Revelation Through Gabriel (AS) During the Battle of Badr

Description

The Battle of Badr was the first great struggle for survival that the Muslims waged against a polytheist army far superior in numbers and equipment. The revelation and spiritual support that came during these difficult moments hold a very significant place in Islamic history:

Angelic Assistance: As stated in the Holy Quran (particularly in Surah Al-Anfāl and Surah Āl-ʿImrān), Allah aided the Muslims with thousands of angels. Gabriel (AS) personally took part at the head of this army of angels.

Spiritual Support and Glad Tidings: At the most critical moment of the battle, the Prophet (PBUH) supplicated to his Lord with the utmost sincerity, saying, “O Allah, if You destroy this handful of a community, there will be none left on earth to worship You,” and thereafter received revelation heralding the coming of victory.

A Handful of Dust: According to narration, Gabriel (AS) revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) to take a handful of dust and throw it toward the enemy. As the Prophet (PBUH) threw it, he said, “Shāhat al-wujūh” (May the faces be blackened/withered), and this dust miraculously scattered into the eyes of all the enemy ranks, causing them to disperse.

Sakīnah (Tranquillity): Through revelation, a sense of assurance and a light state of drowsiness (sakīnah) was sent down upon the hearts of the believers, enabling them to overcome their fear and focus on the battle.
