Bilal (the Abyssinian) Calls to Prayer (Recites the Adhan) After the Conquest of Mecca

During the conquest of Mecca, Bilal al-Habashi's (RA) ascent to the roof of the Kaaba to recite the adhan is one of the most powerful and emotional scenes in Islamic history.

From Persecution to Triumph: Years earlier, Bilal, who had suffered severe torture in the streets of Mecca as a slave and cried out "Ahad! Ahad!" (Allah is One) upon the scorching sands, now stood reciting the adhan as a free Muslim upon the holiest site of the same city—the roof of the Kaaba. This became the greatest proof of the equality and justice brought by Islam.

The Command of the Prophet: After the Kaaba had been cleansed of idols, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) personally commanded Bilal to ascend the Kaaba and recite the adhan.

The Astonishment of the Polytheists: The Meccans present around the Kaaba at that moment watched in great amazement and with a lesson to be learned as a former slave rose to this station and the call of tawhid (monotheism) echoed throughout the entire city.

The Proclamation of Tawhid: This adhan was a spiritual seal that officially declared to the whole world the end of the era of idolatry in Mecca and that henceforth only the One God would be worshipped.
