The Critical Moment at Uhud: Rumour and Resistance
This scene from the Battle of Uhud is one of the most dramatic and instructive moments in Islamic history:

The Protective Circle: In that moment of chaos when the Muslim army was surrounded from the rear due to the abandonment of the Archers’ Hill, very few remained around the Prophet (PBUH). Imam Ali (AS) was at the forefront of those shielding the Prophet (PBUH) with his own body during these difficult moments.

The “Muhammad Has Been Killed!” Rumour: At the most intense point of the battle, when Ibn Qamiʾah, one of the polytheists, martyred Musʿab ibn ʿUmayr, whom he mistook for the Prophet, he shouted, “I have killed Muhammad!” This news caused a great collapse of morale among the Muslims.

Divergent Reactions: As stated in the description, one group of Companions withdrew to the side, laying down their weapons and saying, “What shall we live for after the Messenger of Allah has died?”

Another group, however, continued fighting, saying, “If he has died, then let us also die fighting for the values for which he gave his life!”

The Truth Becomes Clear: When Kaʿb ibn Mālik recognized the Prophet’s eyes gleaming from beneath his helmet and shouted, “O Muslims, glad tidings! The Messenger of Allah is here!”, the army rallied once more.

Upon this event, the following noble verse was revealed:

"Muhammad is but a messenger. Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels? He who turns back on his heels will not harm Allah in the least. And Allah will reward the grateful." (Surah Āl-ʿImrān, 144)

This scene stands as the greatest historical lesson demonstrating that the Islamic cause is tied not to individuals, but to Allah Himself and His message.
