The Miracle of the Multiplication of Food at the Wedding Feast (Walimah) of Fatimah (AS) and Imam Ali (AS)

Description

Islamic sources narrate the event of “blessing and the multiplication of food” that took place during this blessed marriage as follows:

Limited Means: When Ali (AS) and Fatimah (AS) married, their material resources were very limited. Nevertheless, the Prophet (PBUH) desired that a wedding feast (walimah) be given for this marriage.

The Multiplication of the Food: According to narrations, the Prophet (PBUH) prayed over the food, which consisted of a small amount of meat, bread, and dates, and touched it with his blessed hands, supplicating for blessing.

Feeding the Entire City: It is related that from this small amount of food, the entire population of Medina (according to some sources, hundreds of Companions), coming in group after group, ate to their fill, and yet the food in the pots never diminished, remaining as full as it had been at the start.

This miracle demonstrated the sanctity of this marriage in the sight of Allah and served as a tremendous source of morale and provision for the impoverished Muslims of that time.
